Objetivos e público alvo
The project aims to strengthen the organization of shellfish gathering women in Seriema Village and surroundings, promoting the preservation of the mangroves and training of community leaders. The priority target group is the shellfish gathering women, who will be trained to act in environmental management, in cooperativism and associativism, as well as actively participating in territory ordering forums.
Contexto
Maranhão is home to the largest mangrove forest in Brazil, a vital ecosystem for the ecological balance and subsistence of local communities. However, Seriema Village faces challenges such as environmental degradation and the lack of effective participation of women in community decisions. The requested resources will be used in reforestation actions, leadership training, and conscientization on the importance of mangroves, promoting the inclusion of shellfish gathering women and the preservation of the environment.
Sobre a Organização
The Association of Fishers, Farmers, Craftsmen and Residents of Seriema Village has operated for years in the defense of local communities’ rights, with an emphasis in the empowerment of shellfish gathering women and environmental preservation. During the Covid-19 pandemic it has expanded its actions, lectures, seminars, and community actions for cleaning the mangroves, initiatives geared towards filling the gaps in public policies within peripheral territories.
