Contexto
Tiningu Quilombo faces severe rights violations, especially the access to drinkable water. Of the five available natural sources, three are in the possession of farmers, one is sub judice, and only one is accessible to the community. In 2018, a defender of the water was murdered after conflicts with the farmers. Moreover, the expansion of soy in the town has been causing siltation and contamination of the streams by pesticides. The river drought, made more severe by climate change, has drastically reduced the availability of fish, the main source of food for the community. These environmental and social challenges intensify the quilombo’s vulnerability, demanding urgent action to ensure basic rights and the community’s survival.
