Contexto
The Alcântara Quilombola Land suffers with historical human rights violations, including forced displacement and interdictions of access to traditional lands dues to CLA. ATEQUILA, founded in 2018, has acted in the defense of quilombola rights, promoting international denouncements, community mobilizations, and political trainings. The organization faces threats of criminalization and public discrediting by state organs and economic interests.
Sobre a Organização
ATEQUILA was created in 2018 after a mobilization process started in 2007, legally representing the 155 quilombola communities of Alcântara. The association is comprised of a volunteer board of directors, including a president, directors, and 18 branch managers, who cover the entire territory. ATEQUILA manages the Quilombola Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) and is an active part in international actions, such as petitions to the Interamerican Human Rights Court, and the International Labor Organization.
