Objetivos e público alvo
The project aims to strengthen the defense of rights for the trans and LGBTQIAPN+ population in Amazonas, promoting actions of training, sensibilization and advocacy. The priority target groups are travestis, transsexuals and transgender people, focusing in trans, Black and Indigenous women, who face violations such as discrimination, human trafficking and work similar to slavery.
Contexto
The trans population in Manaus faces high rates of violence, discrimination and social exclusion. Many are expelled from home, abandon schooling and face difficulty accessing the job market, being forced to prostitute themselves and getting exposed to human trafficking and slave labor situations. ASSOTRAM, created in 2017, acts in the defense of the rights of this population, promoting actions such as joint efforts for rectification of name and gender, training workshops and sensibilization campaigns. The requested resources will be used to organize human rights courses, and to produce educational booklets and theatrical presentations in schools and communities, strengthening the support networks and increasing the reporting of violations.
Sobre a Organização
ASSOTRAM is the main organization for the defense of the rights of the trans population in Amazonas. Composed mainly of trans, Black and Indigenous women, the association takes part in city and state councils, such as the Municipal Women’s Rights Council and the LGBTI+ State Council. The organization also acts in conjunction with other local and national entities, such as the LGBTI National Alliance, and undertakes projects such as “Sereias da Noite”, which conducts monthly approaches in prostitution points to offer support and information to trans sex workers.
