The project aims to promote the physical and mental safety of the Caranguejo Tabaiares Resiste Collective, identifying risks and building a robust security plan. The project aims to ensure the integrity of human rights defenders that act in the fight for the right to housing, land, and the community’s well-being.
Contexto
The Caranguejo Tabaiares Resiste Collective faces constant threats, such as police brutality, drug trafficking, militias, and the opposition of residents aligned with political interests. The collective’s general manager has been receiving direct threats, including phone calls from criminal factions, putting the safety of all members in risk. The project seeks to structure a security plan, and to offer psychological support and legal assistance to protect the physical and mental integrity of the defenders.
Sobre a Organização
Created in 2018 during the fight against the community’s illegal expropriation, the Caranguejo Tabaiares Resiste Collective has achieved the revocation of the expropriation decree in 2019. It acts in defense of the land, the environment, and in the anti-racist struggle, promoting actions such as the creation of community gardens, political education, and tackling drug trafficking. Led by Black women, the collective seeks to revitalize ancestral knowledge and strengthen the community’s Black identity.
