Objetivos e público alvo
The project aims to fight violations of human and labor rights suffered by domestic workers, focusing in the tackling of work similar to slavery and the empowering of Black women. The priority target group is the domestic workers of Baixada Fluminense, mostly Black and poor women in situations of informality.
Contexto
Domestic labor in Brazil is marked by profound inequalities in gender and race, totaling 6 million workers, of which 75% are in informality. The pandemic has worsened the violations, including cases of unlawful imprisonment, sexual violence, and work similar to slavery. In 2023, 100 domestic workers were rescued from this condition. The requested resources will be used to conduct roundtable conversations, to offer psychological support and to expand the campaign of denouncement, strengthening the union’s capacity for action.
Sobre a Organização
The Domestic Workers and Employees Union of Baixada Fluminense was founded by and for domestic workers, with directors elected in a general assembly. The organization is part of networks such as FENATRAD, the Latin-American and Caribbean Confederation of Domestic Workers (CONLACTRAHO), and the Unified Black Movement. In 2023, the union’s president participated in public hearings at the Inter-American Human Rights Court, denouncing abuses against the domestic workers of Brazil.
