Objetivos e público alvo
The project aims to strengthen the movement by families of people deprived of freedom in the state of Pará, promoting actions of advocacy, training and international denouncement on the systematic violations to human rights in the prison system. The priority target group is the families and survivors of incarceration, focusing in Black women, who face criminalization and persecution by the state government.
Contexto
Since 2019, with the intervention of the National Penitentiary Tactic Force of Pará, the state’s prison system has been marked by severe violations of human rights, including torture, degrading conditions and the extermination of inmates. Relatives of people deprived of freedom have been organizing to denounce these violations, but face criminalization and repression by the state government. The requested resources will be used to conduct a mobilizing seminary, to elaborate a report for the Inter-American Human Rights Commission (CIDH), and to promote the creation of the State Mechanism for Prevention and Fighting Torture.
Sobre a Organização
The Felipa Maria Aranha Collective was formed in 2019 by relatives of people deprived of freedom in Pará, in response to the violations of human rights in the prison system. The collective acts horizontally, with reference leaders organized by prison unit. Most members are Black women, who face persecution and criminalization by the state government. The collective seeks to expand its operation in national and international human rights networks, such as the National Council of Criminal and Penitentiary Policy, and the National Committee for Prevention and Fighting Torture.
