Objetivos e público alvo
The objective is to strengthen the political and institutional organization of local terreiro* communities in the state of Goiás, promoting training and political advocacy actions in the tackling of religious racism and in the fight for socioenvironmental justice. The priority target groups are leaders and members of the terreiro communities, focusing on Black women, youths and human rights defenders.
*Places of worship for practitioners of religions of African origin.
Contexto
The local terreiro communities in Goiás face human rights violations such as religious racism, intolerance and lack of recognition to their knowledges and practices. The requested resources will be used to conduct roundtable conversations in local terreiro communities in the municipalities of Aparecida de Goiânia, Goiás, Anápolis and Aguas Lindas, as well as in political trainings and in the elaboration of action plans that strengthen the participation of terreiro communities in the anti-racist fight and in the promotion of socioenvironmental justice.
Sobre a Organização
The African-Based Religions Forum operates since 2016, coordinating leaders and mobilizing local terreiro communities, promoting actions for tackling racism and religious intolerance. The Forum is part of networks such as the Umbanda and Candomblé Federation of Goiás, the Goiás Network of Black Women and the Pretos Velhos Association of Anápolis. Its operation includes the charting of terreiros, denouncement of religious racism and the political training of leaders.
