    Objetivos e público alvo

The “Strengthening networks of attention to women, girls and people capable of gestating in situation of legal abortion in the state of Rio Grande do Sul” project aims to qualify the service and expand access to legal abortion in Rio Grande do Sul, though the organization of meetings in cities charted as strategic for the expansion of the network of specialized services for attention to legal abortion in the state, as well as the dissemination of information on the legislation and national regulations about the humanization of service, attention protocols, and network services. The priority target groups are managers, attention network professionals and educational institutions with which the organization already has a permanent relationship.

    Contexto

Abortion is legal in Brazil in cases of sexual violence, risk of death for the expectant, and fetal anencephaly. However, access to this right is limited by the scarcity of specialized services, lack of knowledge of the legislation, and discriminatory practices. In Rio Grande do Sul, only six hospitals conduct the procedure, four in the capital, Porto Alegre. The project seeks to tackle these barriers through the qualification of attention networks and expansion of legal abortion services in the state.

    Sobre a Organização

The Legal Abortion Forum RS, funded in 2016, gathers civil society organizations, healthcare professionals, academia and social movements. It acts in the qualification of attention networks, training of professionals, and political advocacy to ensure access to legal abortion. It is organized in work groups (Communication, Advocacy and Institutional Articulation) and promotes actions such as state colloquiums, training courses, and production of informative materials. It is part of national and international networks, such as the National Intersectoral Forum of Legal Abortion Services and the Pan-American Health Organization (OPAS), being a reference and inspiration to other Brazilian states.
