Objetivos e público alvo
It aims to strengthen the comprehensive security of the Maparajuba Collective and of the local communities it accompanies, through the construction of a security protocol, risk assessment, and divulgation of information about protective measures. The actions include the installation of monitoring cameras, training workshops in comprehensive security, and the participation in networks of protection to human rights defenders. The priority target group is members of Maparajuba and community leaders from traditional territories threatened by woodcutters, miners, and monocultures in the Tapajós region.
Contexto
The Tapajós region, in Pará, is marked by agrarian and environmental conflicts, with the acting of woodcutters, miners, and big monocultures that threaten traditional territories and their defenders. Maparajuba, which has acted since 2020, has faced growing risks due to the legal assistance offered to threatened communities. Community leaders and members of the collective have been the target of intimidations, threats, and violences, requiring the creation of comprehensive security mechanisms to ensure the continuity of the work in defense of human and territorial rights.
Sobre a Organização
Founded in 2020, the Maparajuba Association acts in popular legal assistance for Indigenous peoples and local communities of the Tapajós region. Comprised of popular attorneys, Indigenous leaders, and quilombola leaders, the organization takes part in networks such as the Defense Front of Maicá and Ituqui and the Working Group of Human Rights Defenders in Pará. Maparajuba has as a goal to promote access to justice and the protection of traditional ways of life, acting in partnerships with organizations such as the Land Pastoral Commission (CPT) and the Zé Cláudio e Maria Institute.
