    Objetivos e público alvo

Carry out educational activities, literary production and collective construction of a History-Esthetic Memorial, made by mothers, family, friends and friends of victims of violence in the city of São Paulo, as well as by different parties working on the theme (social movements, non-governmental organizations, institutions, etc.). The goal is to raise awareness on the historical and aesthetic development, encompassing all stages of the fight, to ensure the right to memory, truth, justice, reparation and peace.

    Atividades Principais

Formative activities with poetic intervention, hip-hop and audiovisual in memory of the 10th anniversary of the May Crimes.

Gathering of photographic, plastic and literary material, produced during the movement’s activities in different spaces.

Compilation and publication of the book “10 Years of the May Crimes – The Funeral March Continues”, with the participation of families and other invited artists and activists at the end of 2016.

    Contexto

From 12 to 20 May 2006, São Paulo lived a strong wave of violence. Dozens of arrests have taken place simultaneously, hundreds of people were killed and the largest metropolis in Latin America stopped, in what became known as the “the PCC attacks” [short for First Capital Command, a group accused of leading prison inmates in this action and of coordinating criminal actions]. After nine years, it is still not possible to know what in fact happened during those days. Among hundreds of uninvestigated cases, there are evidences that some young people missing might have been buried in mass graves. Even today, there is no official report to explain and give a minimally satisfactory answer to society about the events of “May 2006”.

    Sobre a Organização

The Families of Victims of the 2006 Crimes Network is formed by a network of parents, relatives and friends of victims of the violence perpetrated by the Brazilian State (the police, more specifically), embodied in the State of São Paulo after the May 2006 Crimes. One of the main results of this network has been the emergence, consolidation and impact of the Mothers of May Independent Movement, which has a consolidated range of actions in the area of human rights.
