Objetivos e público alvo
The “Popular Economy and Associated Work: strengthening popular organization in the face of climate change in the fight for decent work” project aims to consolidate and expand the Popular Work Points, spaces for the generation of income and community organization. The priority target group is informal workers, especially women, Black and LGBTQIA+ people, and youths from urban peripheries, who face social and economic vulnerabilities made more severe by climate change.
Contexto
The project arises in a context of climate crisis and increase of inequality, where solidary popular economics comes up as an alternative to unemployment and precariousness. The Covid-19 pandemic and the recent environmental disasters have intensified the need for public policies that guarantee decent work and social protection.
Sobre a Organização
The Movement of Workers for Rights (MTD) was born in 2000, rooted in the social left and in the new popular movements of post-Dictatorship Brazil. With a trajectory of fights for the radicalization of democracy and construction of a Popular Project for the country, the MTD reaffirmed itself, in 2015, as a territorial, feminist, urban, and human rights-defending movement. Currently, its operations are organized around the axes of Labor, Housing, Food, and Culture, with Popular Points as spaces for mobilization and generation of solidary income. The movement has also been expanding its agenda for climate justice and the renovation of young activism, ensuring the continuity of the fight for more just and inclusive cities.
