Contexto
Religious racism and intolerance against peoples of African origin are historical problems in Brazil, with frequent cases of violence, depredation of terreiros, and murder of priests. In Pará, this reality is made more severe by the lack of effective public policies of protection and promotion of religious freedom. The project aims to promote actions of advocacy, mobilization, and dialogue with the public power with the objective of preserving afro-religious culture and tackling these violations of rights.
Sobre a Organização
The Nangetu Institute was founded in 2004, tied to the Mansu Nangetu terreiro, a sacred space for the preservation of the Bantu tradition in Belém. The organization acts in three main axes: preservation of Afro-Brazilian culture, social assistance to terreiro peoples, and advocacy towards public institutions. It is part of networks such as the AfroEnvironmental Network, the National Network of Afro-Brazilian Religions and Health (RENAFRO), and the National Forum of Food and Nutritional Security of Afro-Descendant Peoples (FONSAN).
