Objetivos e público alvo
It aims to ensure the comprehensive security of activist domestic workers, who act in the defense of human rights and in the fight against slave labor in Piauí. The actions include training in physical and digital security, hiring of popular security, acquisition of protection equipment (such as cameras), and production of support materials (booklets, pamphlets). The priority target group is Black women, who represent 92,10% of the category and face daily risks in their actuation.
Contexto
Sintradomésticos-PI has acted for over a decade in the organization and defense of domestic workers’ rights, a category mainly comprised of Black women. The entity faces challenges such as the activists’ exposure to physical and psychological risks during diligences and supports, as well as the lack of digital training to deal with reports and online communication. The absence of financial and structural resources limits the protection capacity of the defenders, who often act alone or with limited assistance. The project arises as a response to this reality, seeking to strengthen the activists’ security and resilience.
Sobre a Organização
Founded in 2010, Sintradomésticos-PI has as a goal to organize the domestic category, raise society’s awareness about the value of domestic labor, and tackle slave labor, racism, and gender violence. The entity conducts roundtable conversations, legal assessments, and awareness campaigns, reaching about 80 women a month. It takes part in networks such as the National Federation of Domestic Workers (FENATRAD) and the Forum for Tackling Slave Labor in Piauí.
