Objetivos e público alvo
The project seeks to strengthen the protection of human rights defenders in Rondônia, a state with high rates of violence against social and environmental leaders. The activities include trainings about popular protection, the elaboration of security plans, articulation of solidary networks, and political advocacy for the creation of a National Plan for Protection of Human Rights Defenders. The priority target group is Indigenous, extractive, and quilombola* leaders, as well as people affected by dams, and relatives of imprisoned people, groups who face constant threats due to the fight for territorial and human rights.
*Traditional communities descended from runaway enslaved people.
Contexto
Rondônia is one of the most dangerous states of Brazil for human rights defenders, with high rates of murders, threats, and criminalization of leaders. The expansion of megaprojects, such as hydroelectric plants, and the advancement of deforestation and land grabbing worsen the territorial conflicts. INTERJUS arises from the articulation of social movements to tackle this reality, promoting popular protection and the reporting of violations. The organization acts in a context of statal omission and fragility of the Protection Program for Human Rights Defenders (PPDDH), seeking to create self-protection mechanisms and to strengthen the network of solidarity between organizations.
Sobre a Organização
