Context
The current Brazilian moment is characterized by the intensification of racism and the deepening of social and racial inequalities based on the dismantling of the State in what concerns social programs aimed at the most vulnerable populations. The advances achieved in the last decades – presently under threat – were obtained by combining several factors: mobilization and organization of the Black population; the contribution of international cooperation; the marches of 1995 and 2005, which are important moments in the fight against racism.
About the organization
ÌROHÌN is a non-profit organization that emerged as the result of concerns and discussions that were established in the post-Zumbi dos Palmares March in 1995, and it is responsible for the newspaper of the same name that was distributed between 1996 and 2009 and reached 16 thousand copies distributed throughout the country. In 2006, they released an online version that was available until 2010.
