‘Marçal de Souza Tupã-I’ Center for the Defense of Citizenship and Human Rights

Back Home Project

Mato Grosso do Sul

CDDH Marçal de Souza Tupã-I in Mato Grosso do Sul is a non-governmental and not for profit organization that has been committed to the defense and promotion of human, economic, social, cultural and environmental rights at state and national levels for 23 years. Founded in 1987, the group is composed of professionals from the field of Law, pastoral agents, communities’ leaders, indigenist, students and social educators.

CDDH-MS has developed, together with local society, a thorough work in the field of the defense and promotion of citizenship and human rights, intervening in specific cases, rescuing victims of violations and provoking action by the states’ authorities to protect these rights.

The Project

The project is a continuation of the ‘State Campaign against Violence Committed to Children and Adolescents Deprived of their Liberty‘. ‘Back Home’ suggests that children and adolescents should be able to return to their family ties after the fulfillment of their socio-educational measures.

The idea is to develop training workshops through a qualified legal advice service with representatives from the system of protection of children and adolescents’ rights, community agents and popular and social movements in order to promote and ensure the protection and defense of children and adolescents’ human rights.

Apart from stimulating the interest for the fight for human rights of children and adolescents, training a minimum audience of 100 people, among adolescents and public officials, the groups intends to demand more firm actions from the authorities to ensure the realization of the rights of children and adolescents deprived of their liberty, as well as encourage the mobilization of integrated actions by governmental and non-governmental organizations.

CDDH-MS works in partnership with other institutions and organizations such as the SEDH – Special Secretariat for Human Rights, CEDCA – State Council for the Rights of the Child and the Adolescent, CMDCA – Municipal Council for the Rights of the Child and the Adolescent, MST – Landless Workers Movement, CIMI – Indigenist Missionary Council, CUT – Chief Workers Union, CPT – Pastoral Land Commission, FETEMS – Federation of Education Workers of the MS, ANCED – National Association of Protection Centers and the CMS – Commission of Social Movements.
