National Front of Women in Funk

National Front of Women in Funk

São Paulo

Objetivos e público prioritário

Discuss public policies for women through activities that allow thematic dialogues, fomenting the discussion about feminism and creating an agenda to fight machismo in the funk movement (funk is a music genre born in Rio de Janeiro).

Main activities

  • Promote debates.
  • Provide capacity training.
  • Act on the territory.

Context

Machismo is established in cultural structures and, in funk, it is displayed in different forms of oppression against women and young people who are part of the funkeira mass (funk movement). There are racial and territorial cutbacks in this scenario since most of the women who are part of the funkeira mass are young and poor Black people.

About the organization

The National Front of Women in Funk is inspired by the National Front of Women in Hip-Hop that works to promote women in the leading role in the cultural scene of the outskirts of the city. The objective is to fight the machismo established in social structures, which strongly reflects the behavior of men of the funk movement.
