In a context of retraction of international funding to the Global South’s civil society, the Brazil Human Rights Fund undertook in 2025 the highest volume of grants in a single year of our history: it was R$ 32 million (circa 6 million USD) granted to initiatives that defend human rights throughout the country. A total of 594 initiatives supported in all five regions of Brazil.

The results represent a growth of 20% in relation to the previous year and reaffirm the Brazil Fund’s strategic position in the scenario of Brazilian philanthropy. A foundation built by activists, with a wide approach of the human rights field and consolidated experience in dialogue, identifying priorities, redistributing and democratizing resources, and strengthening the capacity for innovation of popular movements.

The data is part of the Brazil Fund’s 2025 Annual Report. The document gathers last year’s results, presents financial indicators, our work methodologies, and shows how resources were distributed to strengthen grassroots organizations, respond to emergencies, and increase the presence of civil society in strategic advocacy spaces.

From territories to the big national debates

The numbers tell a part of the story. The other part is in the organizations, collectives, in the movements and people who make these resources get to where they can make a difference.

A significative part of the 2025 grants accompanied some of the main public agendas in the country. The Brazil Fund destined R$ 3,8 million (circa 800,000 USD) to supporting the realization of the People’s Summit during COP30, in Belém, contributing to the participation of over 1,1 thousand grassroots organizations and collectives in the gathering.

It also granted almost R$ 1 million (circa 200,000 USD) to enable the presence of 49 organizations in the II National Black Women’s March, in Brasília, strengthening the participation of organizations that have historically faced hurdles to occupying decision-making spaces.

At the same time, themed initiatives kept increasing their reach. Labora, dedicated to decent work, reached the milestone of R$ 12.4 million (circa 2.4 million USD) granted. As for Raízes, aimed towards climate justice, it granted R$ 5.9 million (circa 1.2 million USD) to projects led by Indigenous peoples, quilombolas, and local communities.

In partnership with CONAQ, R$ 1.8 million (circa 350,000 USD) were destined to the institutional strengthening and legal regularization of quilombola lands within the Legal Amazon.

    Resources with transparency and trust

The dimension of the numbers demands a structure capable of combining agility, trust, and technical rigor.

In 2025, the Brazil Fund kept its financial statements approved by an independent external audit and preserved the recognition of good management practices conceded by the São Paulo State Public Prosecutor’s Office. This work also contributes to the arrival of new international partners, expanding our capacity to support the organized civil society.

The report shows how the Brazil Fund’s acting strengthens those who know the territories’ challenges, build collective responses and sustain, daily, the defense of democracy and human rights.

The document presents this trajectory in detail, with information about the released calls for proposals, themed funds, emergency initiatives, mobilization of resources, and results built throughout the last year.
