There has been R$ 18,4 million (BRL) granted through 14 notices to 348 projects of defense to human rights, from all Brazilian states. In 2023, the Brazil Human Rights Fund grew 29%, significantly expanding its capacity to strengthen organized civil society in the struggle for rights.

In 17 years, the foundation has reached R$ 71,6 million (BRL) granted and 1.497 projects supported and emergency requests answered.

All this information and the presentation of the undertaken actions throughout the year are in the 2023 Activity Report, available in the site.

“The year of 2023 was very special and intense for the Brazil Human Rights Fund. We expanded our capacity to raise funds in order to grant them to human rights organizations in the entire country, and advanced in the practice of an innovative philanthropy that seeks to effectively be an instrument of power transference and correction of historical injustices”, said Ana Valéria Araújo, executive director for the foundation.

In this year, the report also has a new feature: for computer accesses, the map is interactive, and enables one to see the distribution throughout the Brazilian territory of supported projects in a specific theme.

“Beyond the numbers, I algo highlight our strategy of supporting a growing diversity of causes in the human rights field. Beyond the general notice, we end 2023 with 9 support thematic axes”, says Allyne Andrade, Deputy Executive Director.

Dignified Labor and climactic justice are two of the themes in which the foundation has deepened in an innovative manner throughout 2023.

    Transparency and innovation

“A growth like the one the Brazilian Human Rights Fund has had last year, of 29%, can’t happen without judicious and very effective administration of resources”, remarks Gislene Aniceto, General Manager for the Brazil Human Rights Fund.

She explains that, in order to account for the substantial expansion of our grantmaking activities throughout the last years, we have adapted our infrastructure in a responsible and sustainable way, perfecting capacities and processes in a continuous movement of institutional development.

The premise of this work is absolute transparency, and the report brings an analysis on this theme, as well as the period’s balance sheet.
