The Brazil Human Rights Fund’s two calls for proposals to select projects, which ran from December 2014 to February 27 of this year, received 736 total entries.

The “Combating institutional violence and discrimination” round received 625 proposals. This annual event will make R$ 800,000 in funding available. The “Confronting human trafficking” round, in turn, received 111 proposals and will disburse a total of R$ 360,000.

The results of the selections will be announced in May and July, respectively.

During the first trimester of this year, the Human Rights Lawyers Collective (CADHu) welcomed a visit from Taciana Gouveia, projects coordinator at the Brazil Fund. The group works to guarantee human rights for imprisoned adolescents and women and has received support from the foundation via the annual 2014 selection round. Among its other activities, it forwards cases of mistreatment and torture occurring at the Fundação Casa in São Paulo to the justice system.
