A feminist agenda for the future of labor is that which is proposed by the joint statement signed by the Labora Fund for Decent Work, through the Labor Horizons Initiative. Launched May 1st 2026, the declaration defines practical actions for justice and global decent work. The document arose from the reflections of almost 100 representatives from unions, informal workers’ organizations, feminist defenders, and human rights defenders gathered during the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), dated March 16th, in New York (EUA).
“This May 1st is a calling not only to defend rights, but to build the collective power needed to redefine justice in our own terms”, highlights the manifesto.
The Labor Horizons Initiative, of which Labora is a member and coordinator, is a global proposal that seeks to strengthen the collective power of working women and their organizations, increasing resources, infrastructure, and alliances for a more robust and globally connected movement. Labora’s participation in the consolidation of this initiative is strategic: the fund contributes with a perspective based in the experience of social movements and rooted in the specific demands of the Global South, for a workers’ movement that is more inclusive, resilient, and capable of influencing policies and narratives about the future of labor and democracy.
The document was also signed by the Global Labor Justice, the International Domestic Workers’ Federation (IDWF), and the Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) network.
