The Brazil Fund for Human Rights, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, will donate up to R$ 300,000 to support projects aimed at defending and promoting human rights of groups or communities in metropolitan areas of Brazilian capitals. This is the ‘Human Rights and Urban Development’ Call for Proposals launched at the People’s Summit, during the Rio+20. This can be considered a legacy of the event that will benefit civil society organizations in practice.
The idea is to support vulnerable groups to adverse impacts resulting from the preparation for or implementation of large-scale urban development projects or sporting mega-events as the 2014 World Cup and the Olympic Games. The initiatives should focus on the protection and promotion of rights, including leadership training, community mobilization and advocacy actions regarding the implementation of public policies related to the topic. Initiatives focused on gender, race, ethnicity and respect for diversity will be especially considered.
Each submitted project must have a budget of R$ 10,000 to R$ 25,000 to be used within one year. Proposing organizations must have had an annual revenue of up to R$ 300,000 in 2011, as the priority is to support those with few resources. Submissions took place until July 23 and the selection results will be released in late September.
