Virtual auction raises funds for the Brazil Human Rights Fund

When Paulo Ito created his graffiti “Brasil, país do futebol” he never imagined the impact and repercussions it would cause. The painting, considered one of the most expressive pieces on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, went viral on the internet and caught the attention of the international media outlets.

Originally created on the wall of a school in the Pompeia neighborhood of São Paulo, the graffiti was derived from the original canvas which is being auctioned. The idea was to expose the social inequality manifest in the context of the 2014 World Cup. “Some people wanted me to sell it, but since it has a social theme, I thought about returning its value to those who truly need it”, the artist explained. In his mind, donating the piece is yet another opportunity to be involved in possible change.

For the Fund, the opportunity is unique. The foundation serves as a bridge, making work in defense of human rights possible through donations from individuals, companies and public institutions; and also serving to strengthen the actions of small groups that work for the cause, empowering their efforts through technical and political assistance.

The Fund has supported various initiatives to build a positive legacy for the Brazilian population, especially vulnerable groups and communities, in an attempt to prevent and find solutions to the impacts and human rights violations occurring in the cities hosting the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.
