Teresa Cristina’s concert launches Brazil Fund’s calls for proposals

16 December 2016

- por Fundo Brasil de Direitos Humanos -

On December 7, Brazil Fund launched two calls for proposals to support projects in all regions of the country. Held at SESC Pinheiros, the event “Musical Dialogues on Human Rights” included the presentation of the concert “Teresa Cristina sings Cartola”.

The annual call “Fighting Institutional Violence and Discrimination” will support projects up to R$40.000 on the following themes: right to just and sustainable cities; right to freedom of expression, organization and manifestation; right to free sexual orientation and gender identity; right to land and territory; rights of indigenous peoples; rights of the quilombo and traditional populations; environmental rights under megaprojects; tackling human trafficking and slave labor; women’s rights; right of children and adolescents; rights of youth; confronting racism; guaranteeing the rule of law and criminal justice.

The call “Strategic litigation, advocacy and communication for the promotion, protection and defense of human rights” will support, through a partnership with Ford Foundation, actions in paradigmatic cases using an innovative and interdisciplinary approach, for the implementation of public policies and legislation, as well as for the implementation of structural remedies leading to social transformation.

During the calls’ launch, the vice-president of Brazil Fund, Marcos José Pereira da Silva, spoke about the recently celebrated 10-year anniversary of Brazil Fund and said that, given the setbacks of recent times, the work performed by the Fund is even more relevant than a decade ago. At the end, he mentioned the question posed by the young man Douglas Rodrigues, 17 years old, when a military policeman shot him, in 2013: “Why did you shoot me?”

Another important moment of this event was when singer Teresa Cristina praised the human rights defenders who were in the audience: “You are very special people”, she declared.
