Brazil Fund is launching 4 calls for proposals on 10 December, Human Rights Day

At least 88 projects will receive support totalling R$4.7 million. Find out how to apply

On Human Rights Day and in the week in which Brazil Human Rights Fund is completing its 15th year of activities, four calls for proposals are being launched to support the projects of human rights groups, collectives and organisations. A total of at least 88 initiatives will receive support, with donations of around R$4.7 million. 

For further information on each call for proposals:

>> General Call for Proposals: Resisting with Those Who Resist
At least 30 projects will receive support of up to R$ 40 thousand per project.

Objective: to support institutional strengthening of organisations involved in the defence of human rights anywhere in the country. This funding is flexible in nature and the organisations selected will have the autonomy to decide how best to use it, within the scope of the programme.
Those who can submit projects: human rights organisations and collectives from anywhere in the country that have little or no access to other sources of funding.

Registration period: 10 December 2021 to 25 February 2022, at 6pm (Brasília time).
Publication of selected projects: 24 June 2022.

>> Call for Proposals: A Way Out: the rights and citizenship of people coming out of the prison system 
Up to 10 proposals will receive support of R$ 50,000 in tier 1 and another 4 proposals of up to R$100,000 in tier 2.

Objective: to support institutional strengthening of organisations working with people coming out of the prison system, contributing to broadening their political participation in the field of anti-detention and to support advocacy for political policies to guarantee the rights of people coming out of prison.
Those who can submit projects: organisations headed up by people who have recently left prison and their families and criminal justice organisations that are working on political advocacy to guarantee the rights of people leaving prison.
Registration period: 10 December 2021 to 4 February 2022, at 6pm (Brasília time).

Publication of selected projects: 8 April 2022.

>> Call for Proposals: Human Rights Defenders – strengthening the capacity for protection and integral safety
20 projects will receive support of up to R$ 60,000 each.

Objective: to support initiatives focused on developing and broadening institutional skills related to the implementation of actions for the protection and integral safety of human rights defenders.
Those who can submit projects: organisations working for the defence of rights that have little or no access to other sources of funding.
Registration period: 10 December 2021 to 4 February 2022, at 6pm (Brasília time).
Publication of selected projects: 8 April 2022.

>> Call for Proposals: Defending Civic Spaces and Democracy
24 projects will receive support of up to R$ 60,000 each.

Objective: to support the mobilisation of society in the defence of rights and civic spaces in Brazil, in 2022 and 2023, with a view to strengthening democracy and tackling setbacks in the field of public policy and the protection of human rights in Brazil.
Those who can submit projects: organisations working for the defence of rights, that are going to be mobilising in defence of democracy and human rights in the coming year.
Registration period: 10 December 2021 to 31 January 2022, at 6pm (Brasília time).
Publication of selected projects: 11 April 2022.

Can organisations submit projects for more than one call for proposals?
Yes, organisations can submit projects to more than one call for proposals, however, they must be different projects. Registration of the same project for more than one call for proposals will not be accepted, as the programmes have different scopes and objectives.
